You can get the cannon to switch directions by hitting left on the control pad. It's in the instruction manual.

@DragonZord90 If you've actually played the game you'd see its a lot different from the original. It only takes the basic concept.

little known fact:the blob's name is Blobert! seriously check the NES manual

Great review as always. It's too bad Mark Van Hecke didn't write this game's music as he wrote the NES version's music.

the cannon always faces the way that you are facing. If you want it to face Left, look left before it forms. Its quite simple.

The hugging ans scolding was going to be part of the game but they found that it didnt incorporate well but they left in the actions... the point was if the the blob got annoyed and went red (as he does) you would need to calm him down by showing him love in a form of a hug.... so yeah.....
