To be fair I decided to exclude "The Big Five" from my list: The Godfather, Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, Lawrence of Arabia and Schindler's List. It's pretty much a given that these are five of the greatest movies EVER made, however I see them on top ten lists aaaall the time, so to bring more attention to other great films that are shunned from such lists because they cannot rival the grandeur of the Big Five, I decided to leave them out altogether.

  • What you call the big five, isn't... It's Godfather, Titanic, Ben - Hur, Gone With the wind, and Lawrence of Arabia.

  • you just listed five epics - not five great films. godfather, casablanca, gone with the wind, lawrence and schindlers list all appear in the top 10 of afis top 10 list, and are easily five of the greatest films ever made. just because a movie is an "epic" does not by any means make it hreat. titanic and ben hur would have difficult finding a place on my top 100

  • Yes...

cause he copyrighted making top ten lists..

  • IDK, I feel like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest should have been higher up on the list

  • I can't argue with those choices.

  • @Chitownrunthis All About Eve an incredible achievement, it should be top of anyones list of best 'Best Picture' winners, it is amung the best of the Hollywood movies. I have actually seen numerous amounts of these lists by people who haven't put All About Eve in their top ten at all, the morons.Haha It's also outrageous that Bette Davis was not even so much as Oscar nominated for her portrayal of Margo, when it wasn't only the best female performances of that year, but one of the best ever.

  • 10: The Silence of the Lambs

    9: All About Eve

    8: Casablanca

7: The Bridge on the River Kwai

6: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

    5: Lawrence of Arabia

    4: The Godather Part II

    3: Schindler's List

    2: Gone with the Wind

    1: The Godfather

  • Agree with a few of these but REBECCA is AWFUL! Cardboard, dull and one of the great Hitchcock's WORST. See it again and let me know your thoughts.

  • I saw all about Eve when I was 25 I'm 29 now its safe to say that film has ruined anything that comes out these days. Every time I watch a film now i compare it to All about Eve and it never comes close, it set the bar so high in my opinion truly one of the greatest films.

  • What a fucking great list of titles! Kudos to you!

  • @dtheclassics A Beautiful Mind, wtf???? Kramer vs Kramer should never have won over Apocalypse Now, either.

  • Some great choices here, & I might actually agree with your No.1. I do think One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest should've been higher though & I think Billy Wilder's brilliant The Lost Weekend & Woody Allen's masterpeice Annie Hall should've been on the list, too. The Lost Weekend was one of the bravest & best choices for Best Picture the Academy has ever made.

  • 1. The Godfather 2. The Godfather Part II 3. The Departed 4. The Silence of the Lambs 5. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 6. The French Connection 7. On the Waterfront 8. Rocky 9. The Deer Hunter 10. Platoon
