Counterfeit "Cat 5" cables have been sold in the US and elsewhere around the world. There are serious problems with these cables regarding electrical performance and safety issues associated with flammability of cheap plastic insulation.
In this video, we will take a look at a counterfeit cable and see how to identify it. We will also see what happens when we try to burn it.

    Here's a good story! I got yelled at by a contractor accusing me of selling him bad jacks, please I've been selling this brand for 15 years! Turns out his imported cheap cable was maybe a 26awg not a 24 awg that the print on the jacket said and when punched down no proper contact was made!

    He then ran quality cable and guess what, everything worked!

    No surprise you got this from a contractor. These importers target the contractor market and the contractor market eats it up. Many contractors sell on price in order to get work so many of them view the lower price cable as a way to win work. The end user is who suffers.

    Remember that smoke inhalation is the #1 cause of death in fires.
