Audience recording of a rare and stunning rendition of Gethsemane. From the final night of a 2002 amateur production, only performed in Jersey in the UK Channel Islands.

  • Not bad, but he's no Ted Neeley...

  • Thank goodness for that! :)

  • He has a nice voice, but misses on the acting. He is too in front of himself, playing to the audience and the song, using his hands so much for expression. I dont even get a hint of quiet demeanor or pain. I still think Ted Neeley is great the way he portrays this part, id check that out if you get chance.

  • Gives me goosebumps every time...

  • @jcsfan Both aren't Ian Gillian

  • I was ROFL...xD

  • @jd2011music sorry but then you didnt hear the 64 year old ted neeley who just hits the notes STILL which steve balsamo should be jealous of when he turns 64!!

  • Not bad, but not great. The audio quality may have something to do with that, but still, I doubt that it made too much difference. Good voice though.

  • Ted Neeley and Ian Gillan are still the best! Balsamo do not come close to these dudes!

  • where's the scream "WHY?" it's what makes this song unique and sought for... tsk.. so rare vocal technique just ted neely and deep purple can.. tsk... ;))

  • @JHReinhold

Balsamo is the best for this. Ted Neeley is classic not doubt. However, for overall perfomance and the voice delivery of the emotion with perfect singing skills for musical stage song, one finds it hard not to agree that Steve Balsamo has it all! Check out Youtube for "Steve Balsamo - Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar - Ahoy, Holland - June 2004".

  • I'm only 30, but I still much prefer this number sung the way it was originally meant to be performed... That is, performed by a true rocker. Does anyone know the history of Jesus Christ Superstar? It was so "outrageous that no producer would touch it so they (Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice) made a record instead (Sarah Brightman's words)." In amateur productions, I never expect them to do this, but I still want it at professional productions! I miss it!

    This guy is excellent, though.

  • @SpicaBlueGiant HAAAA! You beat me to it!
