This is the History of Anime Panel that was presented by AJAS (Adelaide Japanese Animation Society) at AVCon 2011 on Day 2, Sunday 24th July 2011 at 11.30am. AJAS in an anime club in Adelaide that has run since 1993. Currently runs Tuesday nights for 11 months of the year. http://ajas.org.au for more details.
Presenters - Adam (Hans Stockmann/Pichy), Ryan (Last Exile/Last Sinner) and Sam (ramiel). Simeon (ARTA8SIMS) took care of the tech side on the day.
In Part 1 of this panel presentation, we discuss anime's early days, the wartime period, the 60s, how Osamu Tezuka helped build the anime and manga industries and the Cyborg 009 - Kamen Rider link.
Covering the history of anime in 50 minutes was always going to be a challenge. But we covered the important parts as best we could with the limited time. Nearly 50 people attended the panel, which was well above our expectations, particularly since LittleKuriboh was doing a repeat panel at the same time we did this panel.
Apologies for the sometimes blurry video quality in the first 4 minutes - not sure why the camera recording this panel did that. But considering the tech issues we had to sort out in the two hours leading up to this panel, some blurred vision early on being our only glitch was hardly the worst thing that could have happened. After the first 4 minutes, the vision is fine for the rest of the panel, which laster for 51 minutes, so this presentation was uploaded in 4 parts.
Needs more Pichy.
