Kuala Lumpur-based Deserters are the hybrid of their diverse musical backgrounds and the best bits of your record collection, all sprinkled with a little attitude.
Formed in 2006 by singer / songwriter Zack Yusof, this unlikely combination has been a regular on the buzzing Kuala Lumpur live scene, earning a solid reputation as passionate tunesmiths with a love of guitar noise, a knack for melody and an impressive repertoire of edgy-but-catchy indie pop songs.
Self-funded, self-managed and 100% independent, Deserters have released one ep (2007s Last Chance) and one single (2010s Easier Said Than Sung). Currently, the band is holed up in the studio putting the finishing touches to their debut full-length album Goodbye Oblivion which will be available in May 2010.
To date, Deserters have performed live regularly at various gigs and festivals in Malaysia and around the region with a host of international and local acts including We Are Scientists (US), James Murphy and Pat Mahoney from DFA (US), Carl Cox (UK), Ken Stringfellow (US), Beezewax (NOR), Etc (UK/SIN), The Observatory (SIN), Electrico (SIN), The Great Spy Experiment (SIN), I Am David Sparkle (SIN), Force Vomit (SIN), The Standards (UK/THI), Couple (MAL), The Times (MAL), Bittersweet (MAL), Love Me Butch (MAL), Seven Collar T-Shirt (MAL), Laila's Lounge (MAL), They Will Kill US All (MAL), Nao(MAL) and Ferns (MAL) among others.
