I've read that Rockefeller promoted prohibition to keep farmers from producing ethanol as fuel for their tractors, trucks, etc. Worked really well -- keep the monopolists in power.

You're correct about Rockefeller's push toward passage of the 18th amendment abolishing alcohol and a whole list of drugs. For the first time in US history the federal govt presumed to tell free individuals what they could put into their own bodies and at the same time relegated us to a dependence on oil. Thanks to progressive liberal Democrat scumbags. Yes it was progressives who banned alcohol and started the war on drugs and are mostly responsible for our dependence on oil.
