This is Tramp (Chamblaine) at the Guernsey Riding and Hunt Club Derby Show 2011. He was an absolute star. I love him to pieces. He did the 80cm SJ/XC Challenge then the 80cm Derby, and was an angel in both.
In the SJ/XC challenge he had just 8 faults; the first fence (red and orange on here) as you can see was COMPLETE rider error, and the second pole he had was when he scrambled accross a bank not quite understanding he had to jump it and just took the pole off the top; just novicey and a real shame, as he would have been 6th if clear!!
In the Derby he was a complete dude too; he had just 4 fences down I think; one of which was on top of the Derby bank and the other over the Ski Hill type fence; neither of which he had seen before, so can you blame the boy!? He still gave them a blooming good go!! The other was through a triple which he had jumped foot perfect in the first round but he just got a little overwhelmed and I wasn't quite ready to support him, (silly me!) and the final had an arrowhead type filler underneath; he went to stop, I said go, and being the honest dude he is, he compromised and went straight through instead!!
This pony tries his bloomin' heart out. I have left some of the knocks and awkward moments in as he's not perfect, neither am I, but he learns and improves every single time. As you can see he really enjoys himself, and is starting to make the most beautiful shape over a fence now; but as I say time and time and time again; as long as he's happy, I couldn't care less whether he's placed, other than fancying it as a bit of recognition for how far he has come. But as long as he's happy, healthy and wants to do it, we will carry on, no matter how many faults he knocks up,
I couldn't be prouder of how brave and honest he is. It's a shame that poor little Ash who was running between fields for me, missed the epic line of 4 fences he did in the far field (again, with utter perfection!!) after coming down the Derby bank (she just catches the last one, but there were 3 previous; he'd never seen that many in a line before!!) But I hope you enjoy the bits my lovely helper did capture for you and I really hope you notice the improvement in him. He is my little angel without wings, and I don't ever expect him to be perfect, just to be happy, hence why I picked this song; as long as he has a nice time that's great; and if through our attempts he improves and starts notching up those clears; well, that's just a bonus.
From driving pone to showjumper; proud proud proud!! :D
There will be a full blog and blow-by-blow account of the show on the website

No crit unless constructive; he's not easy and is a total Novice just starting his second season, with a rider who unfortunately isn't perfect herself, but who loves him very much.
Take care!
