Wait, wait for the moment to come
Stand up, stand up and take my hand
Believe, believe in mystery
Love love love love is simple as 1-2-3

I'm a know-it-all, I'm smartest man around
That's right, you learn real fast through the smartest girl in town
Here come a riddle, here come a clue
If you were really smart, you'd know what to do
When...

Jump back, sit back, get back, relax
It's ok
I've called in sick I won't go to
Work today
I'd rather be with the
One I love
I neglect my duties, I be in trouble but

I've been to college, I've been to school
I've met the people that you read about in books
Here come a riddle, here come a clue
If you were really smart you'd know what to do when I say
Jet pilot gone out of control, ship captain on the ground
Stock broker make a bad investment when love has come to town

Where, where is my common sense?
How...did I get in a jam like this?
Believe, I believe in mystery
Love, love love love is simple as 1-2-3

Here come a riddle, here come a clue
If you were really smart, you'd know what to do when I say
Why am I going out of my head, whenever you're around?
The answer is obvious, love has come to town

  • what an awesome song!!!

  • i'm a know it all

    the smartest man around

    ;)

  • Am i the only person that thinks this sounds a lot like ABC by jackson 5!?

  • and i'm sorry i go on the way i do. it's not a rant so much as an opportunity for me to analyze music, something i just love to do

  • @PlayerPunisher in fact, the stooges, velvet underground, mc5 and the like were far more more congruous with what was going on in popular music at that time. as for the kinks-talking heads connection, the heads' upbeat, lighthearted yet quriky and innovative nature is far more resmeblant of the sound of the kinks than that of the aforementioned bands, with their nihilistic and often aggressive demeanor (and that is not a criticism, as i love the stooges and velvets a great deal)

  • @PlayerPunisher look at the kinks' output from 66-76 - there was nothing pop about that band. everyone else was calling for revolution, tripping on acid, and playing 20 minute psychadelic jams while the kinks were reminiscing about the bygone innocence of 19th century country life and producing songs more akin to vaudville than rock. the public hated them for it and refused to buy their albums. pop bands make hits - the kinks created AOR

  • @devolverful Why do you say the kinks? because that is the name you were told inspired the movement. The kinks are far from left field. They are a pop band like early beatles and who. The left field is Velvet Underground, The stooges, mc5, the rationals, Richard Hell and Television which were the first to do it in the CBGB then came Ramones and Talking Heads and such. I don't mean to debate you just inform

  • Nice song
