I attempt to successfully boot up my vintage Apple Macintosh IIci computer. I also try to see if I can find a secret hidden in the IIci ROM.

  • still better than a pc

  • LOL :-)

  • That Port is the IEEE 1284 parallel connection. Its used for a hight speed I/O connection to devices such as scanners and printers.

  • Thank you for your help!

  • why is it when people boot up their old computer they act like they're trying to land on the moon?

  • That is an amazing monitor.

  • I loved taking apart the IIcx and IIci - modular design. Much easier than the IIvx, IIvi, Centris/Quadra 650 (which replaced the IIci basically) and Power Macintosh 7100

  • Love that vertical monitor!

  • I loved these old Macs. Used to use them in college. One rich kid, bought one of these I think it cost something like 2k at the time.

  • @pcmacp719c1 No, it's actually a port for an external floppy drive. IEEE 1284 was never used on Classic Macintoshes.

  • That port you're wondering about is a floppy drive connector. It works with the 3.5 drive, and I'm not sure if it works with a Apple II 5.25 drive or not.

I like the Mac II's a lot, but I haven't had one (I had the relatively wimpy but still awesome IIsi) since I was 8 or so :-(

  • I can back him up on that, I got an Apple external floppy drive few weeks back and he's dead right.

  • I only collect compact black and white ones (all-in-one), but I still like the non all-in-ones :)

  • let alone usb...
