Hymn for Ceylon
In the early 20th Century an Anglican Missionary,Reverend W.S.Senior arrived in Ceylon to work with the Church Missionary Society. He was Vice-Principal of Trinity College, Kandy for many years. Reverend Senior lived in Ceylon for three decades. Reverend W.S.Senior wrote the 'Hymn for Ceylon,' sung to this day in churches on the island. The original music for this hymn was from Richard Wagner and composed in 1950 by the leading Sri Lankan folk musician, the late Deva Suriya Sena.
Rev. Senior lived in this country for about three decades. He loved every part of this country especially he was fascinated by the hills in Haputale and the views from Haputale. In fact he used to spend his vacation at Haputale. Rev. Senior retired from Ceylon and left to England. One of his last wishes were that at his death he should be cremated and his ashes be interred in the cemetery at the Haputale Anglican Church. This was done at a service in April 1938.

Though this hymn is sung often in Sri Lanka - the existence of an English recording is not known.
This project was initiated by Rev. Yohan Heenatigala (a Sri Lankan Canadian) with a group of Sri Lankan Canadians (Sinhalese, Tamil and Burgher), ages ranging from 16 to 60, and was recorded in Toronto, Canada in August 2010,
