"There is a method, a Sufi method know as dervish dancing. Sufis dance. You might have observed small children whirling, dancing round and round and then getting in a whirl... And small children like whirling. Why? -- because when they whirl, they get a deep kick, and in that kick they again feel themselves beyond the body. And that's a beautiful experience -- that's why they like it. Studying this whirling of children, Sufis have developed a method, a meditation method -- they turn, whirl. ... they will tell you to dance, and go on in a mad whirl, and remain a witness -- as if a wheel is moving, and the axis is there and on the axis, the wheel is moving...The axis remains constantly in one position, centered, and the wheel moves on it. Whirl like a wheel, and remember your witness inside as a center. Suddenly you will feel you are the center and the body is just a wheel." - Osho

Sufism (Arabic: تصوّف) taṣawwuf,(Persian: صوفی گری) also spelled as tasavvuf and tasavvof according to the Persian pronunciation, is generally understood to be the inner, mystical dimension of Islam.[1][2][3] A practitioner of this tradition is generally known as a ṣūfī (صُوفِيّ), though some adherents of the tradition reserve this term only for those practitioners who have attained the goals of the Sufi tradition. Another name used for the Sufi seeker is Dervish.
Whirling is a way but most important is that where do u want to end up and why?? Its purpose is to Love Allah and his Messenger(SAW) and synchronize with all creation!!
Whirling does not connect you with anything and has nothing to do with Islam. These statements are just a corruption of true Sufism. However, the whirling itself is quite relaxing, if you know why you are doing it. Read sufi texts to find out.
Yeah. Indeed. This is one of the ways Muslims use to come close to God. Something Westerners obviously stole from us. Mevlana was first to come with this.
You don't get dizzy because you focus your eyes on one spot and every time you turn your eyes go to that spot. Like a ballet dancer doing a similar move. If you start whirling while facing the front of the house then your body turns but your head snaps faster and focuses again on the front of the house and you keep going like that. Like disco dancing on rollerskates.
