Mia Fey is wrapped in a high stakes trial in which she hides some evidence in "The Thinker", a clock-like statue that she received from Larry Butz. She asks her younger sister Maya Fey to hold onto the evidence but when she arrives followed by Phoenix Wright, they find Mia slumped against the wall murdered by the very same clock. An eyewitness along with circumstantial evidence lands Maya in jail for the crime and it's up to Phoenix to prove her innocence.

@Waddaleman a baseless conjecture is an assumption that has no legitimate proof to justify it

@Waddaleman A conjecture is a statement made about events that possibly/likely occurred in a certain way. Baseless, however, means that the conjecture would be false, or that it's unproven, as there could've been other scenarios, like the one Edgeworth mentioned. In short, Edgeworth called it a mere hypothesis that has yet to be proven.
