  • By the way when I said this genset quit. it was the generator quit voltage output not the engine. I gave it away and the next owner replaced regulator and all is still working fine.

  • Well I doubt backpressure is an issue as it is a car muffler. Haven't had a problem an have put at least 400 hours on it since.

  • Folks this genset just died. I'm getting another one tomorrow will post the noise level on that one as well, if it's too loud I'm going to do what ever it takes to make it quieter

  • What kind of engine is that? Briggs, Subaru, or ???

  • Briggs

  • I hope you get my question. I would like to modify my Generac 4000XL. Do you remember the angle piece and the diameter you used on yours? Auto parts stores tend to rely on year, make and model of the car and without this information they are totally clueless.

  • What I did is go to a muffler shop and they did it all

  • I wondered how to attactch the new muffler to the old muffler.......take it to a muffler shop.

Best advise yet. Why didnt I think of that ?

  • Hurricane Ivan theme song

  • 2 things to think about... The intake makes a lot of noise too. The strong magnetic field being broken makes mechanical sound. Good rubber isolators between the engine and frame will help reduce noise. In aviation, we call them "Lord mounts" Made by the Lord company. For those willing to heavily modify things, a belt driven generator would also quieten things down too. Isolating the fuel tank with rubber bushings, Lord mounts would help with mechanical noise.

  • Great job ! I did the same on my GENERAC 6500 but I removed the spark arrestor, I noticed you welded right over the spark arrestor and then ran into muffler. That is what I am going to do next (Revision 2) as only changing the spark arrestor with a Yamaha R1 muffler really did not decrease the overall noise level. My video is also on You Tube, called Generac 6500 with Yamaha R1 Muffler. Check it out.

  • brilliant!! my 1982 Coleman 4000w is getting a muffler make over!!

  • Wow!

  • @TheWoodWerker You're gonna "ignore" the "afro-enginering" comment? Heck, he was being nice, he used the mildest version of "nigger-rigging" that is available. Give him a break !

  • 52, 685 views and so far not a single person clicked the dislike button. Are manufacturers lil bit brain dead? I think generators should be as quiet as new cars when at idle rpm.

  • I'll never understand why ALL portables aren't made like this in the first place. well done
