isn't chlorine put in swimming pools and tap water to kill bacteria, the very same tap water that I drink every day and ask myself whether it is poisonous or not?

@gaswerti i meant reactive, not unstable. only radioactive isotopes can be considered unstable. when HCl acid gives up its hydrogen ions, that leaves the chlorine to react with the result. therefore making hydrochloric acid extremely reactive.

@flagman57 hydrochloric acid is stable but it easily releases it's hydrogen atoms as any other acid would(actually now when i think about it i don't really know can youconsider it unstable)

HCl is very, very stable in its gaseous form.

chlorine is poisonous because its reactive. once it has reacted in a way that it is stable then it is not dangerous. Hydrochloric acid is dangerous because it is still unstable

@silverleaf81 it's because sodium has one outer electron and chlorine has seven so it comes together very tightly making it not very toxic. Plus chlorine is a gas and it turns into acid in your lungs where in salt, it's already reacted and is a solid.

I've been a subscriber for some time although I'm not exactly a science person :) Your videos are very interesting.
Recently I started keeping fish and albino frogs and so became interested in water preparation for aquariums (sorry I hope it's not too random a question). There seems to be an ongoing debate about chloramine (chlorine + ammonia) among the fishkeeping circles. The question is: does chloramine dissipate if just let sit for a week? If so, what conditions should be met? Thanks.
