Those are four really great actresses. But what the hell happened to Elisabeth Shue? In retrospect, that seems like such a random nomination.

The Academy made only 3 great Best Actress choices in the 90's: Holly Hunter in "The Piano", Hillary Swank in "Boys Don't Cry" and Susan Sarandon in "Dead Man Walking." The only travesty was that her equally excellent co-star Sean Penn lost the corresponding Best Actor award to the culturally irrelevant, and completely overrated Nicholas Cage in "Leaving Las Vegas."

Susan's body of work alone would have warranted an Oscar, but her performance in this film was very, very deserving. Good for her!

I was hoping that Emma would win, but Susan did good as well.
