  • He is actually using a meteor hammer and not the rope dart. Most of the rope dart and meteor hammer moves are the same.

A meteor hammer has a weight at both ends. How do people screw that up all the time? It's not confusing.

Like all weapons, the degree to which techniques are fight related depend entirely on the skill level and experience of the practitioner. This is one of the most difficult weapons to practice and use, for reasons you've outlined, as well as it being a danger to the user. But there are few weapons with the long range striking capability and deception of a rope dart. Whether someone wants to spend 15 years to master it and realize its practicality in modern day street self defense ..

  • whatever you read was actually the truth behind the wraps, which also serve as form of catalyst.because the wraps shorten the range,it makes the rope dart move faster, and when you toss it out suddenly and let the rope follow the dart, and supposing the opponent does come forward, the initial force of the thrown dart + momentum = possible instant KO/death.

  • I read somewhere that the idea behind most of the wraps was subterfuge. Wraps were supposedly performed to trick the opponent into believing that the user had screwed up and had caught himself in the rope, thereby shortening his attack range AND his movement.

Jackie Chan's performance in Shanghai Noon served to strengthen my belief in that theory.

  • Well, being small and easy to hide, this clearly isn't a weapon for battle, but more an assassins weapon. As for wraps: As I understand it, You have to be able to very flexibly react to your opponents' movements without giving up the darts' momentum, thus the great variety of moves. Also, the spinning makes it very unpredictible. You never know, where it will hit next.

  • rope dart and hammer both are good long distance as well as grappling and choking, restraining. As with all weapons and hand forms the art is practiced through forms..control, skill, ability-the practioner here has practiced well..thanks for posting. All weapons, handforms have applications, and that is a different skill.

  • I'd love to know how many of these moves are actually fight related and how much are just for looking fancy. The basic throws/kicks to accelerate the weapon towards the opponent, sure, but wraps? For poi dancing I'd understand it.

Also, I have difficulty how this weapon can be battleworthy. For making a painful first strike, but then? Unless the opponent is out from a shattered skull or so, this weapon then seems reduced to a piece of rope in your hands.

  • Whoa,nice..i've been practising rope dart too,but what your friend did was really innovative and creative..can see alot of basic moves have been improvised on for different effects that i didn't think was possible.
