I love this film! This movie is arguably one of the most under-rated films of all time. Most people in the West (in the UK anyway) haven't even heard of it, except the few who saw it on VHS in the early 80s. Best thing is the downbeat ending, you'll never see anything like it in a Hollywood disaster movie. Its the only disaster movie I can think of that gives you two apocalypses for the price of one!
