DIY Co2 reactor - parts: old cracked gravel vacuum, unused eheim powerhead and eheim filter pads. The vacuum parts fitted perfectly to the powerhead which didnt make it necessarily to play around with fittings. Co2 source is a pressurised co2 system consisting of an old fire extinguisher, high and low regulator leading to a bubble counter where it is difused within a ceramic stone and further broken down within the reactor.

  • dude can you explain how the fire extinguisher works, cuz im quite a bit confused . i thought fire extinguishers have some powder in them..

  • @iownudie108 there are various types of fire extinguishers depending on the fire they are used against. a cylinder filled with powder is useless for aquarium use. U need one that has co2 in it. better yet you need to specifically mention to your extinguisher service provider that this will be for aquarium use as also the type of co2 used (liquid form, whether it contains additives etc.) will make it unfit for aquarium use. make it clear to the guy servicing the cylinder what it is being used for

  • Amazing plant growth, very healthy looking.

How big is your tank litres wise and at what bubble rate do you keep it at?

I have just bought a Co2 system and after over a week it has at last started working the way it should.

  • @deedlea roughly around 2bps. ye it takes a while to calibrate it the way you want it to work :(

  • Nice reactor, professional looking.

  • @xquailx its a one time lump cost. if ur into planted aquaria than I suggest you get it because its saves on the hassle and prevents ph swings when yiest start dying out on you. plus I would suggest making it urself instead of buying it ready from some LFS because it comes a lot cheaper. a fire exhiguisher from some security company shouldnt cost you more then EUR40. the regulator from some gas company is cheaper. the rest is a DIY from scrap I had lying around the house.

  • @JRDavison thanks :)

  • The fire extinguisher is absolutely awesome!

  • i used a pump that wasnt very powerful, but i already had it and im cheap. i ended up with more of a bell waterfall, theres lots of agitation though i think it will still work

  • ok. Than I'm not going to waist that much money. I don't mind making it when it stops. i just use two with a splitter thing.
