"'South Australia - It's My Home' is a wonderful song." Her Excellency Marjorie Jackson-Nelson AC CVO MBE Governor of South Australia

The song was broadcast on television to millions of people worldwide at the 2000 Olympic soccer games at Hindmarsh Stadium.

On November 3, 2001, the Public Primary Schools Music Festival Choir sung the song at the swearing-in ceremony of South Australia's new Governor, Her Excellency Mrs Marjorie
Jackson-Nelson AC CVO MBE.

Performances of this State song to date include South Australian Government functions and community presentations, Davis Cup Tie against Germany, Showdown matches between the Adelaide Crows and Port Power, Olympic Flame arrival celebrations in Adelaide, and International World Environment Day.

South Australia is a state of Australia in the southern central part of the country. It is the fourth largest of Australia's eight states and territories. With 1.5 million people, the state comprises less than 10 per cent of the Australian population and ranks fifth in population among the states and territories. The majority of its people reside in the state capital, Adelaide, with most of the remainder settled in fertile areas along the south-eastern coast and River Murray. The state's origins were unique in Australia as a freely-settled, planned British province rather than a convict settlement. Official settlement began on 28 December 1836 when the state was proclaimed at The Old Gum Tree by Governor Hindmarsh. The guiding principle behind settlement was that of systematic colonisation, a theory espoused by Edward Gibbon Wakefield that was later employed by New Zealand. The aim was to establish the province as a centre of civilisation for free immigrants, promising civil liberties and religious tolerance. Although its history is marked by economic hardship, South Australia has remained politically innovative and culturally vibrant. The state's economy centres on the agricultural, manufacturing and mining industries and has an increasingly significant finance sector as well.

"The song was created from my experience in visiting the Adelaide River War Cemetery (114 kilometers south of Darwin) and seeing the graves of Australians who gave their lives in the service and defence of their country. I felt I should do something within my capabilities to honour the memory of such incredible sacrifice." (comment by the author)

  • It isn't an ad

  • The sentiment is fine, and sure, it's great to have stirring songs for S.A. but as some sort of State anthem? It's hopeless! The tune is too complicated & the lyrics are not exactly memorable or something to singalong to!

  • @rikkoshea Yeah - just have a footy song.

  • good song, but I don't really like her voice...don't think it suits...

  • Thanks for the comment. I recenctly uploaded three videos of the song being sung by a male vocalist, school children and instrumental. If you type in South Australian song on YouTube you can listen to them. People seem to prefer the school children singing the song.
