A comedian rants about how much it sucks to play Pachelbel's Canon in D on a cello. Recorded live at Penn State, this piece by comedian/musician Rob Paravonian has been a favorite on the Dr. Demento Show.

  • As a cellist who occasionally plays weddings, it is my responsibility to count all the tramp stamps on the bridesmaids as they proceed slowly up the aisle to my endlessly-looped 8 freakkin' notes. I'm then required to give an accounting to the rest of the quartet, as they are too busy to look up from their endless, noodling prattle.

Gawafullest piece of pseudo-music written in the past 300 years.

    Rob is my hero.

  • "He once dated a cellist, and she dissed him really bad, so for the rest of his life he came up with the worst cello parts he could ever think of." Looks like Pachelbel held a grudge...

  • @jRent2011 ...? Uh... I'm pretty sure he's been around before Demitri Martin.

  • clever comedian

  • @jRent2011 Yeah but you can also say that Demetri Martin Stole his comedic style from Mitch Headburg.

  • He stole his comedic style from Demetri Martin. Even his tone and intonation. The same.

  • there are many canons, which are just musical rounds but with a new phrase every time instead of looping back to the original

  • @Supersmooth007 Have you tried playing it with cello?

  • @Beedahpianokid Yes you do.

  • @Beedahpianokid Likewise, the 2nd violins

  • Do you know what! - I see the funny side of this but I am going to have to agree to disagree, because there are Politics involved! - No seriously! Johann Pachelbel was one of the most prolific and best German composers of the 17th century! I love Canon, I play it on piano and have heard it at weddings etc. It is mesmerising!

  • @EndlessM2

    Metal does it too.
