Reason why Neil gets that bass is the huge bottom wound string..plus it's dropped to D..I have the same banjo..Gibson GB-3.
Mine is from 1926, think Neil's is a 27. They are pretty rare, Ball Bearing design.

@appledecca actually it's a Guito, or Banjitar. A six string banjo. That's why he gets such a pronouced bass, which I know Neil likes, bass.
Banjo's normally have four or five strings, so you have only one or two bass strings. He's got three. And man they're fun to play 'cos if you know the guitar you can play a Guito and it sounds so awesome.
