Une merveille!!! M.Caballe fut une inoubliable Liù mais elle a prouvé qu'elle pouvait chanter Turandot avec une humanité , une puiisance vocale et de piani extraordinaires. Rares sont les Turandot d'une telle expressivité. C'est un plaisir incommensurable et bien peu lui sont comparables. Brava CABALLE et un grand merci!

From a beautiful sustained pianissimo to full volume forte, in her prime she could sing it all. And she looked lovely and moved well. Unfortunately with the weight and the attendant illness, she lost so much of the full package. Thank goodness there is this stunning video to remind us that she reigned above all for a time.

I agree symyu. My favorite moment in Turandot is the "Il suo nome e amor". It's worth the whole opera (which I can find boring at times). Caballe can squeeze so much out of this role , which some other soprani just push through. For me she will always be a better Liu, but it is nice to hear her sing well as Turandot.

O pourra dire ce que l'on voudra: la diction, quelques coups de glotte, Nilson, elle était mieux dans Liu... Je l'aientendue deux fois à Paris dans cette série de représentations, et la semaine d'après en Avignon: elle était fabuleuse fascinante, tenant le rôle comme jamais personne ne l'aurait cru- elle était très supérieure à son enregistrement! De plus les nuances de sa vois humanisaient le personnage toujours hieratique. Un souvenir inoubliable.

I completely agree with you. Her voice suited more Liu in my opinion!

I love Caballe but I like her more as Liu than as Turandot... that's just me.

I'm searching for a really good, more recent version of this, showing more of the choir, please, if anyone knows. My choir is singing this next month, and I'd like to be able to listen to it before I sing it. PS: I sing first soprano.

shuks!I've just heard this Caballe rendition for the first time..

I compare with others that I heard here..

not as piercing as nilsson, etc..

but I love how she held those notes, especially in 'so il tuo nome..

i'm no expert, but i like Caballe as Nilsson..
