the seat you have does it help you siy a little further back? i know they make an extender for the controls thats 1.7/8 longer out.

I figured that out after I posted the question. I saw your smiley, but at the time I posted I wasn't sure what you meant.
As for my buddy not finding neutral, it was cause we just swapped out my old motor with this one and had some tweaking to do with the shifter. It's all good now though! :)
