@lichtbroeder I agree totally with you. We have a few Sisters in town but you'd never know it. They wear polyester pantsuits and are completely invisible. Reformers in the 1500s despised everything Catholic and trashed everything that smacked of "Popery". Those growing up in the Am,erican 1950s, caught up in the Social Revolution of the time trashed everything that smacked of "Tradition". They had wonderful ideals but irreparable harm was done to Church and orders. What a tragedy!

At least these were recognizable nuns, not like some nuns today like the Sisters of St. Joseph with their lesbian feminist hairdos, hoop earrings, lipstick and gym memberships. Oh, yes, and these secualr modernist St. Joe's nuns do wear one small cross pin as a concession to a "religious habit." Thank Vatican II for emptying the convents and seminaries. An evil Council.

Orders at this time were trying to "connect" to society. Sadly, they connected so much that many became (in lifestyle) no different than lay people who were also unmarried and who saw mainly or only, only the social implications of the Gospels. Our local nuns gave up the habit. Some wore makeup, smoked, moved out of the convent to an apartment, took secular jobs, became involved with politics, etc. Now we have no nuns in town at all, and the convent's a condo. (Baby went out with bath water.)

Only hours ago, the Supreme Pontiff Benedict XVI lifted the questionable 1988 excommunications against the Society of St. Pius X. The Holy Father is undoubtedly of the opinion that rubbish such as "Kumbaya" should be given a heave-ho onto the bonfire. It's liberal, it's neo-protestant and, frankly, it stinks. Restore the true music of the liturgy, Gregorian Chant and sacred polyphony. Chitchester and her crew of pro-abortion "nuns" (?) are parasites. Too bad +Ratzinger wasn't elected in 1978 !
