Why is the Church growing so quickly around the world? http://www.mormon.org

There are typically 2,000-3,000 Church members in a stake. A stake is made up of multiple LDS Church units or congregations called wards. The name "stake" derives from the verse "[e]nlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitation: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes" (Isaiah 54:2).

  • @DefendingMormonism It's true because it's growing fast? Islam and Hinduism would like to have a word with you.

  • @yellowcorba1 Sorry buddy but to say that the "truth" has eluded all of the worlds many great civilizations, and was in-fact found by some 19th century delusional con-man, is incredibly arrogant and very narrow minded.

  • In North America the LDS Church is the 4th largest individual denomination with over 6 million members. In 2011, 303,000 people joined The Church of Jesus Christ of latter Day Saints. There are no numbers available for those members who wish to leave the Church or who have left this faith.

  • @scottwins2 Go look up "Mormon church losing members" on youtube and watch your own apostles admitting for the past ten years the church is at a record level of memebrs leaving :)

  • As Elder Jensen recently said “We've never had a period of apostasy like we are having right now, largely over these [historic] issues.” In the interview he says the Twelve and the First Presidency are very well aware of the very high level of resignations.

If the 190,000 members in the UK is accurate then this is an average fast offering of $10 per member per year and 18 cents person per year expenditure on humanitarian aid.

The numbers just don't stack up, its in decline

  • There are almost 15,000,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints it is growing at aproximately 2.5% annually. About 1/2 of the members are active if you consider 1 meeting per month. The word Stake derives from the stakes of a Tent mentioned in The Old Testament. with branch or cords leading from them to the main Tent The Lord or his Church. The Church has over 50,000 missionaries actively seeking new members world wide. The Church continues to grow each year.

Uh, well, actually... of those 14 million, fewer than half actually practice.

Members, especially in developed areas, are leaving the church in droves.

The per-missionary baptism rate is 1/2 of what it was in 1990.

The only real growth is in less-developed countries, where access to information isn't as good.

So much for the popular claims that Mormonism is the fastest growing church. Welcome to a state of decline...
