@superfaces vladimir yashchenko was 18-19 years of age when he cleared 2.35 with the straddle technique.. that is in my opinion a bit more impressive than brumel's 2.27 even though it's a "dirt" track.
This man is arguably the greatest high jumper who ever lived. He jumped 7'6" using a dirt runway, a sawdust pit in the straddle jump form. He was only 23 years old & undefeated the year he got into a serious motorcycle accident which ended his stellar career. He had not even peaked for he was just getting started. There is no doubt that in modern times using the Frosbury Flop and a fast synthetic track that he would have broken the 8 foot barrier. Most amazing jumper at 6ft. in height!
I read reports of Brummel clearing the bar by at least 6 inches...the video from the pit seems to confirm that....that would equal an 8 foot leap back in 1962....UNREAL!!!!

@superfaces This film seems to sugest he was going to jump 8 feet with or with out the frosbury flop or synthetic track.
