Historically, across the planet, the fairer skin tone you had usually meant you were of the elite, leisure class, and the darker skin tone meant you were a lower class peasant, who worked in the sun all day. China, Japan, India, and European countries all had/have this thing. I'm sure it exists between Northern/Horn Africans and their Bantu counterparts.

@Diztvrbed1 I don't know if you were talking to me buddy but you are right that Sammy Sosa can do whatever he wants with all his money he's earned playing baseball. I see you're point with the different culture groups I know there's cubanos, mexicans, dominicans, puerto ricans and other hispanics in the U.S. but if one these groups do something silly then all of these groups take the fall because they're bonded by one language spanish! and all fall in the latino category.
-
@Diztvrbed1 here is the interview Qk-aC1F0S5M . y si esto es being latino why dont you make your "being latino" videos in spanish for latinos! being latino en ingles! disparatoso.
-
@Diztvrbed1---i was not done, YOU DONT BLAME SAMMY, (LAMBON) YOU BLAME upper WHATEVER LATI- you didn't do a good research. he said in an interview clearly that he did this in short words, to look better cause he has the $ to do such things. not cause he doesnt like been dark skin. is all about money buddy, hes deal has nothing to do with hes skin. this is much more simple but, people like to OVER THINK simple things.

this is not a matter of culture at all. this is only happening IN america with "SOME" latinos. america is multicultural, so when you say "our culture" which one do you speak of, again? right!. you threw too much in, your subject was sammy, not "OUR" culture, or whatever you ment. As a matter of fact the skin issue has lessen far far more now in days. believe it. as a matter of fact someone might dislike or hate you more because of where you come from and not because you are black or white!
-
@Princ3omari By the way bro latino is not a race! If you're brown skinned and Sammy Sosa is black and if both of u consider urselfs latinos then obviously latino isn't a race. By the way I'm a white hispanic and I consider brown people like you and black people like Sammy a part of my culture. So don't think latino is a race it's just a culture group.
-
I think its kind of hilarious how african americans like Tori Hunter call hispanic players black imposters?? Seriously just a guy like Sammy Sosa is the same thing as you Tori the only difference is the language bro!
-
@Princ3omari im dissing sammy sosa, hate the fact that he bleached his skin. that idiot would rather look like a dead white man then a good looking black man. that shit is crazy to me. i dont agree at all that what he done is the same as white tanning cos whites can get a tan by simply sitting in the sun for a few hours, while blacks cant get like that in any natural way. color does not matter to me at all, im mixed race and i love my brown skin. i'd rather die then look anything like sammy!
-
@slimithy12 in my experiences of white ppl. ive seen a few that got very dark tans i should say and the afro wig thing is just u trying to be funny and sarcastic so u can keep that and shove it up ur @ss as far as i'm concerned. that facts still remain whether or not tanning is reversible alot of you make that apart of your identity.smh. too bad you cnt see it but color does matter to you. let me just ask if tanning was permenant. you whites would be filling up every tanning salon there is eh?
-
@OBSERVING09 not necessarily true.. 1 example to back me up. Mariah is half black but is she looked at as an all black woman or even a part of black at all?? no. so that's not necessarily true. However there's nothing to really talk about 'cus in this "white man's world" its either u white or you're not. either you're white or "just" a minority. so i say fuck the whites. Us, Latinos are the rulers!
where did this ''the lighter your skin is the better you are'' concept come from. I think its a bunch caucasian superiority bullshit

What planet have you been living on?

Wait! Somebody mash the brakes! Doesn't this mean that we should do this to every celebrity that goes to the tanning salon?

Really good point you make -- but not really at all.

I can't believe this fool in the video said that culturally, the lighter your skin the better you are.
If that were true, there would be no homeless, or poor white people. If that was true, there would be no dark skinned people with millions of dollars. Oprah Winfrey would not be the billionaire she is today with white folks working for her.
Some people need to think about what they're going to say before they make fools of themselves.

It seems that the only fool here is you.
By culturally, the statement was aimed at the Latino community (if you didn't notice the HUGE moving logo in the bottom left-hand of the screen).
Maybe you should think before making a presumptuous and BLIND statement as such.
