I Made A QR Code Out of M&M's and it Worked!!

I have been into making M&M pixel art (which I started doing at TeenSIG in Denver) and I recently attended Defcon where the badge had a funky QR code in it that I recreated pixel by pixel in MS Paint to figure out what it said. So it just hit me that I should see if I could make a QR code that linked to the M&M's website, http://www.m-ms.com out of M&M's.

I first messed around with the QR code (which I had generated for me at http://zxing.appspot.com/generator/ )in MS Paint to see if the color had an effect on the ability of the Barcode Scanner Android application and found out that it did, (the contrast is the most important thing). This kinda bummed me out, but I decided to try and draw it by hand on graphing paper, however, I didn't get past the 3 corner squares.

I decided to try and make the QR code out of brown M&M's and try to make the corner squares first to see if the scanner could even pick up the corners, and it did (as long as I was a little further away, so the M&M's could blend together a bit I guess)! So I decided to keep going. Believe it or not, the amount of brown M&M's shown are ALL of the ones that were in the 56 oz bag shown at the beginning of the video, plus a few more from another bag.

Oh, and I was listening to some Ratatat in the background on Spotify the whole time I was doing this; got through almost 3 whole albums.

but you should also be able to find it in market app on your android phone.
