*UPDATED VERSION*

I just noticed I have an international crowd of viewers. Feel free to write about questions. Sorry, I only speak English, German, and some Spanish :(. Peço imensa desculpa, Eu não falo português. Du kannst hier gerne was fragen. Me puedes preguntar algo si quieres.

Please Upvote if this helped you! It will get me more viewers, thank you!

So, the true story behind this is I went in with relatively little idea how I was going to beat him. When I played on hard mode, I got halfway through the volcano and stopped to make an epic playthrough, which I have documented with these videos. My last experience with this boss was on normal difficulty, where I basically sliced through him. Here, I had a general strategy in mind, but you might notice that some things are still rough around the edges.

UPDATE: I have figured out how to handle his bombs. Stand just behind the gray platform in front of him. Watch for his gun to extend forward. Jump and attack as he fires each bomb. Learn the timing for this and they won't hurt you again. He fires 3 salvos when above 50% health, 4 between 25 and 50%, and 5 below 25% or so.

As for the fireballls, I have had some success waiting just to the right of the left gray platform (the one on the floor). As the first fireball nears, I run to the left, jump up onto the floating platform, jump, then duck back through it as the remaining fireballs arrive. I will show all of this on my boss rush when it's finished. I got to Lance just couldn't pull through because I am using a different build.

END UPDATE

Strategy:
Let's talk about some of the boss patterns first. When he is on the right side of the map, he has two attacks: He throws bombs or shoots fireballs (like from the cosmic monoliths) when he is at 50% health. You might have seen me miss some of my dodges of the fireballs; I was still figuring that pattern out. I did successfully dodge twice, look at those times to see how I did it. As for the cannonballs, I discovered during the fight that the best thing to do was stand back about one boss length away from him and swing every time he launched a cannonball. If he fired a fast one directly at you, you could deflect it, but you are still close enough to kick any close range cannonballs into him.

On the left side of the map, he fires patterned bullets. The best thing to do is dodge them and sneak a combo in between rounds. Now, the KEY thing here is the following:

100%-50% health he fires FOUR rounds
50%-25% health he fires FIVE rounds
25%-0% health he fires SIX rounds.

Once you know how to defeat his attacks on both sides of the map, he is a cakewalk to survive against. The main complication is creatures. If you don't have a very strong offense they will overrun you. For this reason, I think it is best to go either high magic or high attack. I obviously chose magic.

What to do:
Use his bombs as your main source of offense, allowing him to run over them or kicking them in to him. Your job is to melee down any bombs the boss shoots out when on the right side of the map, and sneak in combos when the boss is on the left side. This keeps your mana up. The more attacks you sneak in during the fight, the better off you'll be.

When he drives across the map creatures will pop up.

If it is a bomb, hit it and move out of the way.

If it is one of those firebreathers, bait him towards you, jump over the bosses head, and Seiken both of the creatures together. In the video, I used one seiken for each creature. In hindsight, it should have been possible to bait them both together and thus save one mana ball.

If it is a lava rock, Seiken it immediately (while it is still on the ground), jump over the boss, and Seiken the other one. Don't miss. These guys get out of control fast.

Your mana should stay topped off, so you will have constant access to heals, while bombs and the occasional Seiken whittle the boss down. And that's how the tank crumbles.

  • Worth pointing out that when he starts throwing bombs; you can stand directly infront and do the up swing to both regenerate mana and knock pretty much EVERY bomb into him.

  • @Ramenth

Yeah I figured that out later, too. But on the boss rush you can't do that so in my update I added to stand a little further back and jump to hit them.

  • Something I think you forgot to mention is that you can even attack his walls of bullets for a lot of MP regeneration.

Personally this strategy is a bit too defensive for my taste, but I suppose it's better for some.

  • @UnlimitedDrillWorks

hmm I'll look into that. I'm not the most dexterous player so I have to rely on strategy to win. I've been getting better as I make these videos though. In fact for boss rush I'm forced to take a more balanced build. I nearly beat Lance yesterday. I won't have time to try today but when I get it I'll post it. Thanks for the tip.

Ok, so I redid the boss 4 walkthrough. What do you think?

  • 'i am not a car'

Thats the first thing I thought when I fought this boss

  • @AlejandroGreat1

Dude, we all know he has the hots for the mage.... xD

So does Matt..... Alls fair in love and war ;D

  • LANCE! Why do you do this? After all the adventures we had (granted it was only 1)

  • I used this same set but a different strategy...I only used Heal and Bolt for this fight, and when he started firing bullets I instead camped out on the platform. As he came across I did the jump slash on him so I could bounce across to the other side.
