Pottstown Early Action for Kindergarten Readiness (PEAK)

About PEAK

The Pottstown Early Action for Kindergarten Readiness (PEAK) initiative was created in an effort to coordinate quality early childhood education and related services and make them more available to children and their families. The PEAK initiative is funded through the Pennsylvania-Pre-K Counts grant and focuses on building partnerships with the early learning programs in the Pottstown community. The goals of PEAK are:

---Every three and four year old child has access to high quality child care, early childhood education, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten.

---Every parent of young children has access to the high quality skill building and resources needed to prepare them to be their child's first "teacher" and to prepare their children for success in school.

---Every child has access to health and wellness services to ensure that they are prepared to maximize their potential in school.

To achieve these goals Pottstown School District is working through a partnership with United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Prior to receiving the Pre-K Counts grant, the PEAK Partners determined that there was a lack of knowledge in the community concerning the importance of high quality early learning experiences and limited information about the resources available to families and the importance of the family in the child's educational process. Looking at these issues the PEAK Partners selected five key areas for the grant focus: recruitment/marketing, community outreach, parent engagement, quality improvement and Kindergarten transition.

This unique collaboration in Pottstown forms one common vision for early childhood education in the community resulting in higher quality early learning programs, increased resources for families and improved readiness for school. While the PEAK initiative focuses on early childhood education, the ultimate aim of the PEAK partnership is to build a culture of learning in the Pottstown community that begins at birth and extends through higher education.
