Claramae Turner, the great American contralto, starred in opera, operetta and many musicals. In additon to appearing in the film version of Carousel, she sang "You'll Never Walk Alone" in an expanded version on television, circa 1956.

  • No one else can sing this song in such a natural, emotional and poignant way. This song belongs to this lady.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger I appreciate your comment about Claramae Turner and "You'' Never Walk Alone" very much and cannot understand how it was flagged as spam.

  • Wonderful indeed! TY. Doug

  • Always pleasant to received praise for Miss Turner's singing.

  • Beautifully sung. The right amount of emotion and a simple approach to the music and lyric. The chorus behind her is not to be believed.

  • I appreciate your kind comment about Miss Turner's approach to "You'll Never Walk Alone." Never exaggerated. Thank you!

  • @opertutto I'd guess it was a football fan who thinks it's only meaningful when sung by a crowd at Anfield or Parkhead or Gerry and the Pacemakers. I actually like this song in all of those contexts but some people just can't look beyond their immediate experiences.

  • A beautiful, elegant and subtle performance.

  • still alive... age 91 !

  • And this lady was a "contralto"? She hit high notes that many so-called "high-voiced" singers today wouldn't even try. I hadn't heard of Turner before, but this lady was definitely a musical treasure.

  • The greatest version of the song...enough said!

  • I remember seeing the band, "The Smiths" play in 1985 and this song played just before they took to the stage and I can still see that moment vividly in my mind. It was such a moving song that ended right when the drummer for the band started playing and the curtain went up. I will never forget it. It was magical.

  • Beyond magnificent. Ms. Turner played the character of "Nettie Fowler" in the film version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic musical "Carousel" starring Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones. She introduced this song in the film and sounded just as glorious as she did on this Ed Sullivan clip. Brava!

  • Pure magic..absolutely brilliant in every way...this is what music is supposed to be..

  • Beautiful!

  • Not only supremely moving to listen too , but also beautiful to watch. Wonderful Claramae Turner.
