agreein with 420lovinlife about this style of music cause of the way u cn put urself in a different reality if u no wat to listen 4. im into all types of music. i think that other (death, grind, death metal..hiphop/rap,classical,or chestras, symphanies nd could old country with religious based lyrics[im not at all religious tho]) but its makes people unique in their own way. gives the world more taste.haha a colorful playing field for the minds to enjoy and discover beyond what it sees X] staylit

america needs more of this culture influencing the youth, instead of pornographic sales pitches brainwashing everyone into thinking that doing wrong and living life for self pleasure is the point of the human experience, mark of the beast or just greed in its purest

I think Allah Rakha and Dildar Hussain are the greatest Tabla players in recorded history. It is a great pity that beautiful music such as this is losing popularity in the sub-continent. The attendant at the store where I used to buy Ravi Shankar, Poonchwaley etc. records always thought I was buying them for my grandfather.

Someone just told me that Dildar Hussain was actually taught by Allah Rakha.

Pandit Ravi Shankar has written all kinds of compositions. He has also composed orchestra pieces for western/eastern fusion. He has composed new ragas, compositions within existing ragas and much much more. Not to mention the brilliant and constant improvisations. The format of Indian Clssical music is a little more complex than just having songs. They are composed of parts both fixed composition and improvisation.

in an Indian Classical concert 90-95% of the stuff is improvised on the basis of Raagas and Taals. The only time you hear a lot of fixed material is in a Tabla solo, and even that is largely adapted.

You're absolutely right. Mastery of music is a lifestyle, not an achievement.

It's great in that this brings out some of the more eccentric elements of his personality. Some exciting modal exploration, and a few really characteristic Andolan sways.
