  • Correction: The tailpiece and bridge angle is not a design problem. Back when the Jazzmasters and Jaguars were released people used thicker flatwound strings. The infamous buzzing only came about when people started using thinner nickel strings.

  • @prospectnyc That's true but few people use flatwounds anymore. I noticed when I put nickel strings on, and I use extra light strings, that it was buzzy for me. Changing the angle with the buzzstop got rid of the problem for me.

  • @aektzis91 Last week I bought a CIJ 62 Jazzmaster . It is a great guitar (pickups sound great too) and surprisingly there is no hum at all in all positions! It is a really versatile guitar.

    Fender Jazzmaster

With its offset waist and contoured body the new Vintage Modified Jazzmaster® gives a nod to its iconic forbearer but has other things going for it that make it truly 'modified'. • @lafleur887 its as easy as getting noiseless pickups. im sure lollar, fralin or any other 'boutique' pickup designer has noiseless jazzmaster pickups :)

  • The only problem this guitar has is the hum..beside that it is an amazing instrument

  • great video, great info. it sees you are a jm aficionado

  • @Lobsterkin You are correct - the bridge was the problem - the neck was wonderful (I speak from experience). Easiest solution? StewMac sells a Mustang bridge. $30.00. Perfect fix. Problem solved! (Yes, I speak from experience). And the Jazz is my all-time *second* favorite solid body (the Mosrite Ventures model, which I own, is my favorite).

  • @Lobsterkin I find if I play near the bridge it definitely buzzes. I'd rather not modify the guitar by changing the bridge and the buzz stop allows me to get rid of the buzz and keep the guitar intact. I think the tone is fine with the buzz stop, plenty of sustain and everything.

  • @Lobsterkin Thanks man. I appreciate it. I don't like it when people play these complicated guitars and don't explain how they work so I thought i'd do one myself. I forgot to mention Tom Verlaine from Television also plays one.

  • @niuog I wanted to tell you: This is probably my favorite Jazzmaster video on youtube! Informative, helpful, and you picked some great songs to play and bands to mention. So many videos have neglected to mention Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr.

  • @SuperQuin2010 You mean bridge, surely? The Jazzmaster neck has really only had as many issues as any other guitar's, to my knowledge.

If you want to fix the bridge just put a Tune-O-Matic or, what I use, a Mastery Bridge. It's a much better solution than a buzz-stop (which ruins your tone) and fixes all issues people have with the jazzmaster, basically.

While I will say the JM isn't for everybody, it's probably my favorite guitar.
