This video follows a Myrmica rubra ant in a single continual shot carrying a piece of food back to the nest. Watch the interesting occurrences that happen as the ant is carrying the food back (e.g. obvious scent trailing, informing of oncoming ants of the food that lies beyond) and as the food is brought into a chamber in the nest and distributed around for other workers to eat, all while more workers are constantly bringing in more food.

The ants had a special morsel of cooked shrimp tonight. They broke it up into tiny pieces and carried them back to the nest and had to film it! Enjoy!

  • how did you manage to catch queen ants what methods did you use

  • @bomerman104 There are several ways. All my best tips and secrets for catching queen ants are found in a book we sell at our ants store at AntsCanada, dot, com.

  • @AntsCanada When you do catch her, what do you feed her?

  • @tall32guy The queens? Well, if you're talking about this species, they are called semi-claustral which means the queens make a burrow but they still go out and forage for food themselves. So in that case, you would feed them honey and dead insects. With most other queen ants, you don't need to feed them at all until their workers arrive.

  • is these ants also sold to americans?

  • I SUGGEST HAVING HARVESTER ANTS BECAUSE THOSE ANTS CLIMB A LOT AND I CAN SEE THAT THEYR PRETY SMALL

  • Myrmica rubra....i like these

  • a peace of shrimp...your ants have it made huh ...lol

  • @MikeyBustosVideos oooo but it still looks like a pupae in the vid but if you say shrimp than its a shrimp.

  • @PreppyPoser1 I just used the soil that came with the ants when I excavated this colony from their wild nest. The tricky thing with ants is if the soil is deep enough and moist enough, they will tunnel in their outworld. This outworld and video is quite old now and we no longer use this type of outworld setup.
