Looks like the KX is pretty much in check.
The Maico however looks like it goes a little bit over the 99db's.

  • Hi Toby I own a Maico 490 1981 GS which is road registered I was thinking of putting it back on the road only of I can get the noise down to a reasonable level to pass an MOT in the UK. The nearest quiet big bore straight silencer that would be suitable for adapting to get the noise down would be an FMF Q Silencer for a CR500. Are you using an FMF Q silencer on your Maico??

  • @bikersonicmike I'm using a FMF Universal Turbine Core. You can check out the DB Snorkel to further reduce noise

  • @tobyeo well i think you should look into a pipe protector because i no with that shape of pipe you could make something work also make sure yoursilencer is freshly packed often makes a huge power and noise differance keep up the awsome vids thanks

  • @jdirtbiker1 Nope, they don't make them for Maicos

  • @tobyeo try an fmf gnarly or somethink thicker if they make them or buy a pipe protector and you can find alot of what you need on sale at motorcyclesuperstore

  • @jdirtbiker1 Yup, actually I got mine for $110 and the fine is more than the silencer. My silencer is legal forestry approved spark arrestor. My bike is still a little bit louder than 99db as u see tho. I always stop if they pull me over. So far, on my 82, they just said it sounds too loud but never measure because I have the right silencer. Problem is that some of the stock pipes are very thin and make a lot of noise. Not really sure what much mor I can do to reduce the noise.

  • @TheIdaho420 It is kind of weird when I saw the bike, however I've seen several bikes with the same setup. Its possible that people are ordering FMF silencers that are for a newer bike that is angled exhaust and putting them on older bikes or they just manufacture 1 part and the parts list is showing that 1 part for all the bikes. Never looked into it. Might help muffle the sound pointing down tho. Ya, need forestry approved spark arrestor.

  • @tobyeo i agree compleetly thats why i dont encourage runing but its rediculouse how much those fines are and legal muflers are about 200 dallars

  • @jdirtbiker1 Kind of hard to run away on the trails either if they patrol the parking lots, plus im not riding a CRF450 so not hard to pick the bike out of a crowd

  • @tobyeo ya the dunes are strick and you cant run away like you can i the trails tho i do not ecourage runing but one of our local outdoor tracks has a decible limit and they dont enforce it unless your way to loud
