Dutch oven cooking - Mountain Man breakfast
Hash browns, sausage, eggs, and cheese, cooked in a Dutch oven.
Our Boy Scout patrols love to make this on campouts. It's very easy to make, and you'll get about eight good-sized portions.
For complete recipe or more Dutch oven cooking videos, please see my blog at http://dutchovenvideo.blogspot.com.

  • How long did it all take to cook and did you stir the eggs in to the potatos and sausage?

  • @Hi199510 -- Total cooking time is about 45 minutes. I usually just pour the eggs over the meat and potatoes, and I don't stir it unless the charcoal is getting cold and it's not cooking to the point where the eggs are setting up.

  • it looks really good but mountain men had beans and bacon with coffee

  • @asdl805 -- This is what the meal is commonly called by Boy Scouts.

  • This is probably the first time I've seen anyone cook with a prybar, lol.

Can you tell me the name of this brand of oven? I've had this recipe before but cooked in an electric oven with tater tots in a casserole dish.

  • @ofdiscordia -- It's a "Dutch oven". You can find them in the camping section at Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods, Gander Mountain, etc. I think that most of the ones I've seen are made by a company called Lodge.

  • duch ovens are the bomb

  • That looks sooooooooooo good but no mtn man ever had that for breakfast. :0)

  • i made the sickest mountain man! but i tripled all the ingreenats and also incuded more veggies!

  • i wish you would have plated it so we could see what the finished product looked like on a plate!

  • @astrnomr Oh I suppose I should explain what I was asking exactly, it's the recessed lid that threw me off, I'm not used to seeing the charcoal on top, the ones I've seen had curved lids and you couldn't do that, with the exception of another I saw on here that had the same lid and the person using it had a metal spatula with a hook on it's handle to lift the lid off of it.

  • @astrnomr Yes I knew it was a dutch oven, most of them I've seen don't look like that though, it's more like a cast iron pot with a lid and the handle has a bent spot to hang it over a campfire, I'll check your stores you listed though, that's a start for me :) thanks
