Writing the Perfect Essay:
Let me start by saying there is no such thing as a PERFECT essay. I'm sorry if this isn't what you were expecting when you clicked on the video, but you must understand that it is extremely difficult to tell other people how to write a good essay for college admissions. If you have any specific questions about writing this essay, maybe I can give you more insight or tips in a personal message. So please don't hesitiate to ask.

1)Fully understand the topic
-If you don't understand it google examples until you understand it.
-If you don't know where to start google is also google for that.
-Like I've said before. Google is your best friend.
-Someone is bound to have both written and posted something about the topic.
-Any essay you find, use it for inspiration do not copy people's work!!!

2) Brain Storm
-right out all your ideas ( I usually do this on loose leaf paper, however I rarely write out my essay on loose leaf paper, I can't think like that)
-if you can't narrow it down to one pick two or three and write down everything you can think so say about it bullet style.
-After you write down make a list for each idea, pick the idea that had the most to say about it.
~If you have WAAYYYY too much to say about it, pick the idea that does not have so many bullets, but enough to form a complete functional thought.
-I personally never really pick the best topic. I pick the easiest topic to make the best essay. Sometimes it's the simple topics with the unique twist that captures the attention of those reading it.

3) Format
-You want to make sure the settings on word are set up for maximum proofing and correcting.

***I forgot to mention; try to have an even balance of upperlevel words and basic words*** (This makes you sound educated) lol

  • Its amazing what one can learn from others. I can't believe that until you said the following words "if they ask for one reference, JUST give one, NOT two or three" because it means you do not know how to follow instructions, and I had the mentality if they say one, I will give more, thinking I was doing great, because I was "going above and beyond, or the extra mile" Wow!!! You give amazing tips :)

  • @adelat084 Yeah, a lot of people think that and thank you that's really sweet!

  • Thankx Bemo. Really Helpful. I wish i could look at my essay topics without actually starting my application process .... lol oh well

  • @Tre08babe012 you're welcome and why don't you want to go ahead and get started on your application process?

  • @Tre08babe012 That's good that you want to check witj your counselor, but they can also slow you down sometimes. I would strongly suggest starting at least the 1-3 week in August. Starting doesn't mean submitting and if the application is done online you can just save as you go or leave it alone for however long you want. :) September's Countdown comes out on Aug. 15 so be looking out for that :)

  • @DearBemo I was waiting to talk to my school counselor, just to see if i was on track & if she agreed with my school choices. But, i guess theres no harm in starting :))

  • @SincerelyNevada yeah i think writiing it down, unless your away from a computer and think of a idea, wastes time. If I don't know where to start at all though I do jot some nonsense down on some looseleaf paper lol :)

  • @GlitzxxGlam I would say you should take the SAT and ACT. If dual credit is offered to your school take advantage of the courses offered and take advanced classes. Start thinking about the colleges you want to attend and go on campus visits. Also, if you haven't started on you resume, you should make a resume and also if you haven't been keeping track of your community service and extracurriculars you might want to get that in order. Hope that helped.

  • I'm going to be a junior in highschool... what do you think i should do to get ready for college?(: thanks!

  • @DearBemo Yeah I've had my fair share of writing papers. My junior year I wrote a 14 page research paper and writing the whole thing out first wasn't an option for me lol
