Its really ridiculous when people start saying "WHAT IF"........ You cant change history. At any rate, Seles getting stabbed by that freak was a tragedy. And he only got 6 months? No justice! We know that when Seles was in her prime, that no one could hit angles like her. But you cant take anything away from Steffi, saying that Steffi "took advantage of the situation". That is just a foolish comment. Steffi was a champion tennis player. Seles, also a champion.

Actually he didn't get 6 months, he got nothing. He was never put in prison.

Then 7 months later Seles beats Graf at the Australian Open final that is four wins.....Seles last victory over Graf came at the 99 Australian 6 years later and it would be her last. Mind you Graf recorded 10 wins over Seles. I am finished with this topic and suggest that you see a therapist because you are delusional.

All specialists admit that Monica,without the stabbing,wld have been THE greatest of all.She had 8 GS at 18,Graf just 1.That says it all.She was the boss,& Graf just took advantage of the situation.Parsche did a "big favor" to Steffi.

Monica will always be the greatest women's player ever... she had such awful luck in the latter stages of her career: the stabbing, her father's death, and all those injuries. At least, though, Monica was able to win one last Slam..... although it would have been even better if she had won one...

@jac7124 Agreed. Chris was rarely at her very best in '89. Painful loses to McNeil, Mandlikova (after holding a match point), Paulus, and Anne Minter illustrated her game was seriously waning. Although she had a couple bright spots in taking a set from Graf at VS of Florida and drubbing MJ Fernandez a couple times. Let's face it, the last time Chris had been at her best was probably the '86 French.

Chris certainly was not at her very best here. This was her last year playing and she was 34 years old. Unfortunately, she had many bad days just like this one in 1989. You can totally tell that she was so over Monica's lobs and just wanted the points to end.

What was unique in Monica apart from the angle shots, was her shere will to want it more. More than anyone else. At the same time she could smile from the heart.
