Turkish-Kurdish tensions rise

'If Turkish troops enter Iraqi Kurdistan, it will mean to declare about war,' said the leader of the region Masud Barzani.

'Any infringement will mean war,' announced Barzani in Erbil.

He appealed Turkey to settle the issue by means of a dialogue and not cannons.

"If they adopt a peaceful position we are ready to support them as much as we can. The worst part is that they do not discuss alternative versions. They insist on the war to be the only means of settling the problem."

Barzani also hinted that Turkey has another reason for having such rough position towards 'Kurdistan Labour Party,' which is not something new.

"I am almost sure that 'Kurdistan Labour Party' is not the only pretence. Turkey's consecutive, direct threats addressed at Iraqi Kurdistan and its behaviour make think that the real target is the region itself, otherwise why are they putting us in the middle of the struggle between Turkey and 'Kurdistan Labour Party?!'"

Foreign Minister of Iraq Hoshyar Zebari also warned about Thurkish troops' possible incursion into Iraq.

At the interview with BBC the Iraqi Foreign Minister evaluated the current crisis to be very serious.

Zebari blamed Ankara for not willing to find a peaceful solution for the problem of Kurd militants.

In this context lately former Turkish Parliament member of Kurdish origin Leyla Zana made a rather noisy announcement.

She stated that leader of 'Kurdistan Labour Party' Abdullah Ocalan must have the opportunity to speak to his nation.

Zana stated that if it is done and if Ocalan is given the opportunity to be involved in politics again, 'Kurdistan Labour Party' will lay down arms.

"If they do not lay down arms, I will be the first to struggle against them. This is a promise."

Zana stated that it is necessary to have a new constitution, where the Kurdish identity will also be mentioned, so that Kurdish people would have the right to speak Kurdish, and get education in their mother tongue.

Minister of Jurisdiction of Turkey Mehmed Ali Shahin responded very sharply to Zana's address.

He reminded about the Turkish position according to which Ocalan is leader of separatist rebel terrorists.

He mentioned that all those who consider Ocalan to be innocent will gain the same status.

'It is necessary to study these announcements from legal viewpoint. Corresponding bodies will take care of it,' said the Minister.
