Florence Houghton, a retired IRS employee is one of the principles in a devious money laundering conspiracy to influence local politics with Casella Waste Systems, a corporation with one half of a billion dollars in annual revenues. Houghton's canidate Richard Ubaldo was elected as a Bethlehem NH Selectman and Chairman of the Select Board in March 2008, after the most expensive and corrupt campaign in the history of local politics.
This is the second part of a clip called Select Board Chairman Richard Ubaldo lobbies for Casella. One of Ubaldo's first actions was to contact the Town's lobbyists and State Senators and notify them that the Bethlehem's position has changed, and is now in favor of Casella's landfill expansion. Ubaldo denies and deflects allegations that he acted in his own best interest instead of the Casella's.
Bethlehem has spent considerable time and efforts getting the proposed landfill controlling House Bill 1429 (HB 1429) passed in the NH House of Representatives. Houghton complains that supporting HB 1429 eliminates Casella's control of the Bethlehem NH, and the audience cheers! Filmed on April 7, 2008.
