Popeye is tending his four identical nephews- and they're all identical to him, except that they're spoiled, recalcitrant little you-know-whats. When the four adamantly refuse to eat their "spinach," Popeye does a three-can spinach demonstration demo for them (piano-playing is among the strengths that spinach brings him!). Their continued refusal really crushes Popeye, who tearfully resigns himself to giving the little brats a group spanking for their own good and to get his way. After the kids reluctantly choke down the stuff, they get so strong and built up so fast (faster than Barry Bonds, even!) that they seize staves of wood and give ol' Popeye the paddling of his life. This marks the last appearance of Popeye in the black shirt and captain's cap. This is also the first time that Popeye attempts to get his nephews to eat spinach.
This is probably one of the only cartoons in the series where Popeye ends the story flat on his back with all the fight knocked out of him.
Also note that this is the second appearance of Pipeye, Pupeye, Poopeye (formerly Pepeye) and Peepeye in the Popeye series, but as Popeye's nephews, having debuted in a dream sequence in Wimmin Is A Myskery (1940) as Popeye's children! - bcdb
