  • Helo, I have an existing silicone implant implanted in 2005. I am not happy with the size and feel of it it is to large and is pulls on my neck when I look upward. I was wondering is it possible to remove the existing implant and instal a mersilene implant at the same time.

  • @MrWhatismypassword

Hello. Yes it is possible to remove and replace a chin implant as long as there is no active infection of the current implant. Having you previous operative records helps in determining size and approach. Seeing profile pictures of you prior to the original chin implant was placed also is very useful.

  • Dr Naderi, thank you for your response, I also want ask you something else about mersilene mesh implant. Is it true that this material can give a less pronunced chin than silicone implant? In which cases should not be used this material?

    regards

My pleasure. This material can be used to build up most chin weaknesses but the premade implants are easier to use and have a more shallow learning curve for the average plastic surgeon. The advantage of the merilene mesh chin implant is that the edges are not usually palpable, and it does not shift or move and if shaped properly, gives a very natural anterior projection without making the chin too square, bulky or masculine (in women). The disadvantage is its tougher to remove

You should ask an Allergist or Oncologist. As far as I know silicone is an inert material that does not cause major problems. My general plastic surgery colleagues say that the breast implant "scare" of the past was just that - a needless fear mongering by some leading to needless removal of many silicone implants. Silicone is relatively safe but you may want to look into this further and ask your internist if he/she is aware of any issues. My chin implants arent silicone anyway.

  • @DrNaderi Hello Dr.Naderi

Are silicon implants associated with any type of autoimmune disease or cancer as is the case with some other type of silicons used in plastic surgery?

  • @micchi8123

    Hi,

Each implant has its advantages and disadvantages. With everything considered I prefer Mersilene but most plastic surgeons are not used to this and they have trained with and know how to use the silicone or medpor implants.

  • Hi Dr Nderi!

I watched your video, I would want know if using mersilene mesh is possible to get same results of silicone implant, in my country, Italy , most Surgery doctors use only silicone implant material, why it??.. Can mersilene mesh to be used in every case or there are exceptions?

    thank you

  • @jcbarrozo

The cost depends on the surgeon and the part of the country you are getting the chin implant surgery. Roughly the cost is $4-5K which includes the anesthesia and hospital fees. The cost of the chin implant is lower if its being combined with other procedures such as Rhinoplasty.

  • How much will it cost?
