When a medicine is made it is patented and anyone who wants to use the same chemical formulation had to pay royalties, when an idea or concept is patented by the WHYPO in Geneva it is against the law to use that same concept without paying royalties, the same for scientific inventions , perfumes, design etc..I am not saying that bands can't do covers but they must not lie and claim that they wrote the song; that is illegal..Page and Plant singed their names on other people's compositions.

The crediting should be self evident really, when musicians cover a song everyone knows it was influence and know the original artists, did they have to write it on records conforming to people, the history of music would speak for itself! To them it was their own versions and creations of a song that they like. Besides covers speak of influence and legacy throughout generations. Perhaps they didn't like paying royalties because whatever they did they really created it anew.
