Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels and fans gather to attend the first 'statue-model' unveiling of local icons J.P. Patches and Gertrude
This design was later replaced for a better bronze version, now set and placed in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood - entitled: 'Waiting for the Interurban'

They both deserve so much more for all they've given us. Can't even imagine what that would even be.

@ColonelCuster My funniest memory of the show was when JP warned departing guests to watch out 4 the hole, & you hear the scream as they fall into it anyway. In an email, Wedes told me that a number of kids were afraid to leave because of the "hole". When 1 of the guests "fell in", his kids cried until he got home.

I;ve heard about their knack for double entendre. I don't recall much of it myself from watching it as a kid, but I recall a number of laugh pauses b/n Chris & Bob, during which older family members were laughing too-& I had no idea what they were laughing at! Hats off to Wedes & Newman for keeping the show kid-friendly & adult sauve' at the same time.

Innocence is gone, it's all about how much money they can make these days. The true patches pals will never forget you. I watched him since 1957, my sister was on his show as a Blue Bird and as an adult Gertrude signed my cast. I'm so glad he finally got what he deserved a statue in the public eye. CONGRAT'S JP Patches and Gertrude

Way back in '66 I broke my left arm and wrote to J.P. Patches explaining the situation and he very kindly replied as well!!! Not only that, he sent me a photo of himself and mentioned the snafu on his ICU2 TV set. His chemistry with children is mind-bogglingly great indeed.
WE LOVE YOU JP AND GERTRUDE!!!!!!!!!
