By austere and bare bones, I mean they don't decorate their churches, they have a "bare bones" order of worship. there is just singing, preaching and praying. They don't recite any creeds or even the Lords Prayer at their worship services. They call pews, "benches". Seemingly repelled by anything "frilly" as offensive to God.

1) Treble is not traditionally given as a category of voice, it is a clef attributed to keys and notes. 2) I have taken music for over 15 years and have sung in internationally winning professional choirs, so I think I am relatively confident that I know what a Soprano is (I am a Mezzo Soprano. 3) I have a very extensive vocal range. 4) God has blessed me greatly, I just don't feel the need to shove it down everyone else's throat.

emmavink. You must take note of the fact that for the most part, traditionally, you are not dealing with professional singers here, plus things are not done in the modern way, so they will use the terms treble and tenor to mean the same thing, Also at Sacred Harp, both men and women sing soprano or the melody. In modern choirs only women sing soprano. In Sacred Harp both men and women sing tenor(called treble by the old-timers). In modern times, only men sing tenor.

I completely appreciate that this is singing for the purpose of worship and community. Thank you for the explination of how Sacred Harp works, it makes more sense to me now. I have never heard of tenor and treble being used interchangebally, but it makes sense in context.

This is a very powerful rendition and I in no way seek to discredit the style, I am just always interested in what can be done to better the overall sound. Think the impact would be greater if the shrillness is addressed.

I never thought you were trying to discredit the style or anything else, and I have no interest in defending Sacred Harp. I also think they sing too loudly. If you have been to one, it is kind of a competition to see who can sing the loudest or the fastest. I have only been trying to describe it to you and how they do things differently than we do in modern times.
