Mitch Richmond: One of the Underrated Greats

This segment originally aired in '97. It struck a cord with me personally at the time & still does, because when one mentions some of the All Time Great 2-Guards, his name RARELY comes up & when U ask people why, they more or less, don't give him that just due because he allegedly, lacked the showmanship of a MJ or Drexler or Miller.

This guy averaged OVER 20ppg the 1st 10 years of his career & he DID IT in the TOUGHEST defensive era EVER! With no help a that!

Imagine if he just had the physical ability of MJ circa 1996-98, he would've been even more of a beast than his peers knew he was, but yet many fans, just didn't get how TRULY great he was.

During those years for the Kings, he was option 1, 2 & 3 & was being doubled & tripled team EVERY NIGHT!!

i remember i think he was on the warriors Glen Rice and Mitch Richmond were my favorite shooters in NBA jam for Nintendo 64, every 3 pointer went right in lol

I never seen a group of fans so dedicated to remaining TOTALLY ignorant & clueless about not only him, but those they like to claim are so inferior to him, despite virtually ALL of the facts & evidence CLEARLY telling them something else..SMH

I mean they'll try to smear the greatness of entire eras just to prop kobe up. This is why so many other fans don't respect, despise and are so intolerant of them.

@hangtime23ful yea man I understand most people are gonna rate Kobe high, and he is one of the best 2 guards ever. I'm not sure I'd rank him 15-20 of all-time players but I understand I'm in the minority on where I stand. I just feel dude has been super helped by A)the refs/league & B) being on stacked teams, especially playing with Shaq when Shaq was at his best. And I'd put Clyde above Kobe as well. Kobe is definitely overrated, and I'll always feel that Mitch doesn't get the respect he should

@Loudmouf84 Uhh well i'm sorry dude i have to disagree i mean this is Kobe Bryant were talkin about, a guy considered a top 15-20 player of all time which he is. Yes he is the most overrated player of all time cuz even some ppl consider em THE GOAT which is dumb & so r his fans but he is still up there with the all time greats. I just saw u debate with this guy about these 2 SGs & it reminded me of the fact that Richmond has outscored em overall thru out their career head to head matchups, haha.

@Loudmouf84 Here's a true fact about Richmond & Kobe which is quite funny. Outta all the games those 2 faced each other thru out their careers Richmond has more total pts then Kobe, haha.

Thank you for posting this. Mitch Richmond is easily one of the most underrated players ever. That dude had serious game but doesn't get brought up with some of the other greats because he played in Sacramento before their last resurgence.
