On a jailbroken ipod touch or iphone download a interface application called "activator" from cydia, there you can change any button on ur idevice to anything you want.

You honestly have a problem how would you be able to increase the volume when the device is locked? Also this is in 2009 you should have said that it is illegal, it isn't anymore, but I'm just insisting that you should have done that.

@iPodTouchAdvise Actually..the volume up and down still worked if you held them down :p As for the legality...those who jailbreak know what they're getting into. And as you said..it doesn't matter now anyway :)

good for you an all.. but "they didn't think of it first"? Dude it's a volume control button.. it was put there to control the volume.. not to skip tracks... and some how I don't think steve jobs is sitting down in his office beating himself up over it... How about before you go around hating other people for their creations.. you go and produce something even slightly comparable... until then... STFU.

@nerdflu Wow...fanboy much? Now pay attention because I know you are distracted by the reality distortion machine you've fallen pray too. Steve Jobs doesn't invent anything. Sorry to break it to you. He is a marketing genius...not an industrial one. That being said, he also isn't perfect (I know..shocking). He and his designers have made many a flawed device in the past, and I never once said the ipod touch was flawed, I just said it was lacking a feature.
