The film is wrong, you hold the spoon handle in the palm of your hand before pulling the pin

The grenade he is explaining about is type 36 world war 2 British grenade and i doubt anybody would use this type anymore. the modern grenades fuses have a spring loaded hammer, when you release the handle, the hammer hits the primer and sets off the fuse train. Depending on the color code markings of the fuse handle, this varies from 4 seconds to 8 seconds delay. Also the grenade was defensive, the handle of the grenade must be held in the palm of your hand before pulling the pin.

@SigJohno it is called a spoon.

"technically the pin DOESNT DO anything, its JUST HOLDING the handle in place"
......
its there as a safety measure...
what it DOES is stop ur ass from blowing up when carrying them around.

WRONG. There's 3 safety's on an M67 fragmentation grenade. The spoon, pin, and 'thumb clip'....which they don't show in movies. Also once the pin is pulled out it can be replaced unless the spoon/lever flies off. Then your fucked.

Marshel-"Ok, I pulled the pin. Now am I holding the handle right?" BOOOOM!!!!

@GamerMovieMaker7 The pin is just the safety for the spoon or the handle.
Cool, now tell me how a bitch works. I got dirty dishes.
