A segment of a slide show made from photographic slides taken during the World War Two service of Capt. W.C. Peach. After stations in Iran and France with supply units, he was demobilized and visited London while on his return to the United States. This visit coincided with VE Day (Victory Europe Day) in London.

The music is a wartime recording of "Bluebirds Over the White Cliffs of Dover", a song of hope to return to a World as it was before the Dark Days of World War II All told, 350+ photos were sent back to The States and these are all slowly being put into a slideshow through Pinnacle Studio 11. If there appears to be some interest, some or all of the segments may eventually find their way to Youtube. Please let me know what you think. Thanks, ngiyaxolisa.

  • my grandfather was in the war...not sure where he was VE day...I think the Americans were fighting in Italy at the time possibly? I know that he also went to France...he helped shot down anti-aircraft in Italy..I wish I could remember all the stories he told me...good video...

  • @rachel7036 Thanks for the "good video" comment, I'm happy about how well this slide-show turned out. Sadly the photographer, Walter Peach, passed away last month at age 97. Your post would certainly have pleased him.

  • Great! I live in central London and it's nice seeing these picures of what it was like during the war.

  • My father, the photographer, will be pleased to hear that. At 96, he's still pretty sharp (honest). I'm sure though that some of your fellow Londoners remember a very different London during The War before May of '45 when Capt. W.C. Peach was there.

Thanks for the videos. Its so great to be able to look back and reflect on history. I wasn't alive on VE-Day but the footage on your channel makes me feel so proud of my country.

  • @TheMythTheMagic Thank you! Yeah, I'm kinda with how these vids turned out, but we all have to thank the photographer, my recently deceased father Capt. Walter Peach, for giving us such great photographs from which to work. He used an Argus C3 camera and sent the undeveloped film back to The States to Kodak (NY) to be developed and never saw a single picture until he mustered out and returned home after four years of service. Your gracious comment would have made him truly proud.

  • Gosh what smashing, clear photos. The fact they are in colour aswell makes everything seem "real", rather than the usual detached atmosphere of the black and white. Thank you for sharing.

  • Lovely video. Rare to see the period in colour.

  • My mother remembers VE-Day well because it was her eighth birthday. What a present, eh?

  • My mother was driving an ambulance through the crowds of Piccadilly on V.E. Day. Sometimes I see a piece of film showing it...brings a tear.

  • I enjoyed that, thank you.
